Conforming to a sedentary lifestyle is the worst thing a person can do to their body. Exercising regularly is as essential to humans as eating a nutritious balanced diet. World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that every individual should exercise everyday for 30-40 minutes. There are immense benefits associated with adhering to a regular exercise regime – such as being physically fit, strong and healthy. But the real challenge is to set up an exercise regime and then stick to it on regular basis. What separates fitness enthusiasts from the crowd is that they commit to their work- out on a continuous basis. This workout may even be a set of simple exercises which if repeated everyday for a long period can provide immense health benefits.
Listed below are some simple exercises for beginners which together create a wholesome workout that doesn’t cause undue physical stress, but at the same time builds up stamina, resistance, durability and strength.
Before you start though, don’t forget to warm up with these mundane exercises-
Stand straight with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms stretched out to the side. Slowly rotate your arms, first forward and then backwards, in a circle. Repeat this exercise 10 times in each direction.
Stand up straight and hold on to something for support. Swing each leg back and forth like a pendulum. Repeat 10 times on each leg.
Lift one knee to the chest at a time (hold onto support if needed). Repeat 20 times on each leg.
Stand up straight, legs shoulder-width apart. Bend your knees and lower your bottom as if you’re sitting on a chair. Slowly return to start position. Repeat 25 times.
Finally, post completion of the workout, cool down your body by stretching out your arms, legs and back.
