Mumbai University to let colleges conduct 1st and 2nd year undergraduate examinations.

Almost three years ago, MU had implemented the centralized examination system for the colleges which means that syllabus, schedule and everything was decided by  the university itself. Only the assessment part was in the hands of the colleges. Now, in the council meeting held recently have come to the decision, to revert back to the old method of examination.

In the old method, the college itself is responsible for conducting the examination with regard to deciding the syllabus, schedule and all. But for the third year students, there will be centralized examination which will be conducted by the university itself.

It will come into effect from the 2019-20 academic cycle. The rules of centralized examination was implemented in the year 2016. It has faced many criticism from the teachers as well as the students. It was difficult for the teachers to know what is really going to be asked in the examination and the students also had the fear. The common schedule took a load in the colleges, teachers and the students as the first year examinations were extended  to April-May instead of March. The teachers had to work double shift and could not get time for their online assessments which started in March. This also delayed the results of the third year students.

Meanwhile, the post graduate examinations are carried on smoothly due to limited number of students.
