As the time is passing by, our country is heading towards the 2019 Loksabha elections. Yoga guru Swami Ramdev on Tuesday said that the current political situation in the country is quiet complex. The statement coming from Ramdev who was in the thought of supporting the Bharatiya Janta Party in the 2014 elections and Prime Minister Modi was very surprising.
“Now the political situation is very difficult. Who will win in 2019, we cannot say anything. But it will be a tough fight,” Ramdev told news agency ANI. Ramdev was speaking at Tamil Nadu’s Madhurai at an event hosted at the International airport to spread awareness about yoga.
It was observed that Ramdev is distanting himself from politics and does not support any party ” I am not focusing on politics, I don’t support or oppose anyone,” Ramdev said. These statements were in contrast with what the yoga guru had said in the past. Ahead of the 2014 Loksabha elections, Ramdev extended his support to Narendra Modi calling him the “symbol of development and good governance.”
However, this is not the first time we are seeing such a change in the mind of Swami Ramdev and imply that he would not campaign for any parties in the 2019 Loksabha elections. Earlier in September, Ramdev had categorically said that he would not campaign for the BJP. “I have withdrawn politically. I am with all the parties and I am independent,” he had said while responding to a question at NDTV Yuva Conclave. Later in the same month, Ramdev said, “I am an apolitical person, I am not bound by political limitations, Mother India is my first priority and my work is my religion. So, my only focus is that.”
Ramdev also dodged the questions on BJP and RSS topic saying he does not want to make India a Hindu country or a Communal country and would rather focus on making India a spiritual country and world.
Ramdev had openly supported BJP in 2014 Loksabha polls. He was also named Haryana’s brand ambassador and was granted cabinet minister rank.
