The Indian skipper Virat Kohli grabbed all the well-known awards in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Awards this year. The skipper grabbed the best ODI batsmen and test batsmen of the year. He also won the award for the Sir Garfield Sobers ICC Trophy for Men’s Cricketer of the Year “…Virat Kohli named captain of both sides following a remarkable 2018 as batsman and skipper,” the ICC said in a statement.
“Not only is Kohli the first player to win these three major ICC awards together, but he has also been named the captain of the ICC Test and ODI teams of the year for a fabulous run in international cricket,” the ICC said in a statement on Tuesday, 22 January.
By the end of the year 2018, Virat was the top ranked test and ODI batsmen. He also led the Indian squad to the top of the list in the test rankings and to the 2nd position in the ODI rankings just below England. Kohli was the unanimous choice for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy with South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada coming in second to him for both this award and the ICC Test Player of the Year award.
Not only this, the Indian skipper captain Kohli was also named as the captain of the ICC Test and ICC ODI squads of the year. He was chose among the best from the world. Rishab Pant was also from the Indian squad to represent India at the Test team. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah were included in the ODI teams of the year 2018.
From the Indian origin, there was one more player to get the limelight. Rishab Pant received the ICC emerging player of the year. He became the first Indian wicket-keeper to score a Test century in England, and equaled the record for the most catches taken in a Test, with 11 in Adelaide in December.
